While other brands splashed millions on high-impact ads, Kanye’s unconventional approach swept the internet and brought in a staggering $19.3 million in sales.
Though his strategy was a risky gamble, it demonstrated that an unconventional approach, when executed well, can indeed pay off handsomely.

Short and simple: content that makes people stop scrolling and pay attention to your ad.

How do you stop a pro marathoner (aka thumb-scroller) mid-run, so they watch your ad instead?

3 Seconds To Grab Attention
Did you know you only have 3-5 seconds to grab someone's attention before they skip your ad?
Follow these three tips to keep them watching:
Hook Your Audience
Start with a surprising or humorous incident or even a visually eye-catching scene.
For example, in our Hollow Socks ad, we showed a man pouring water on himself. This unexpected scene catches people's attention and makes them curious to see what happens next.
What about humor? Trends can become handy here! We used a hilarious TikTok filter in an ad targeting farmers.
Make Them Curious
You know the saying “curiosity killed the cat”?
Give your viewers something to be curious about that will make them stop and watch your ad.
Maybe ask a provocative question or present a fascinating fact that relates directly to their interests or pain points.
For example, a hiker might ask, “Guess how many blisters I got after a 10-mile hike?”
This not only draws viewers in but also prompts them to watch for answers.
Plus, this also draws in hikers and people interested in hiking, so it does a great job filtering through our target audience
Show the Result First
If your ad is about solving a problem or revealing a transformation, begin by showing the successful outcome first.
Skip long intros and show them the most exciting or relevant part of your content right away.
This reverse storytelling method makes people curious about how you reached that result, encouraging them to watch the entire ad.

Use Impactful Visuals
Visual hooks are key to catching people’s attention nowadays. But that doesn’t mean you need a huge budget to achieve that goal.
As we said earlier, high-quality images, dynamic videos, close-up shots, and eye-catching graphics are amazing in drawing viewers in.
Give these tips a go:
Oddly Satisfying Videos
Colorful visuals will stand out in a feed filled with monotony. Oddly satisfying videos, especially with bright and bold colors, make great scroll-stoppers that people cannot stop watching!

Add Movement
Animations, quick cuts, zoom-ins, zoom-outs, and changes in the scene keep the eye engaged. Sometimes adding a little unique editing does the trick, ya know?
This strategy proved successful for our Crafty By Numbers ad where we move the captions throughout the video to keep viewers engaged.
Closing
From the examples we showed today, you can see creative hooks don't have to be expensive to engage viewers effectively across different brands.
A solid strategy really makes a difference.
